linking 2 air compressors together to increase FAD

HI all i know this has been talked about before. I was wondering if i link 2 compressors together via their end of tank fittings which are 1/2" put a half inch ball valve then some half inch hydraulic hose with half inch fittings to link the 2 compressors together then the air will be fed out from 1 compressor via a half inch regulator and into a half inch flexible hose to the air tool. Will this set up increase FAD?.

it will double it if there both the same cfm output

Depending on what you are doing you might want a bigger outlet hose.
When I linked mine I ran 1/2 from one outlet to an unequal tee on the other. Then 3/4" flex to the water trap (then round the workshop in 1" water pipe)

For any use other than blasting 1/2" should be fine.

Yes it is that simple.

I installed ball valves and then 1/2" barb on one compressor, two 1/2" barbs on the other. I then used 1/2" bore hose to join them and go to the regulator on the wall and to 3/4" hose which runs to other places. It allows me to only run one compressor without making it fill the other tank if that's all that is required or one needs repairs.

Thanks for your replys, the 1 compressor is a 8cfm with 50 litre tank and the other is a 10cfm and 150 litre tank, tHe air goes out from the 150 litre one to the tool in 1/2". wAs thinkinf of using the set up on a clarke sandblaster which uses 26cfm max. the clarke only has i think a 3/8 inlet fitting into a water trap.

As above that'll work perfectly

you'll have 18cfm vs the 26 you need but it's better than just one compressor... just have to stop and let the air pressure build up now and again


I'm no blasting expert but it's important to have dry air... so worth cooling the air as much as you can so water will drop out of it

air snakes up and down through the pipes cooling down and then water drops out to be drained through the valves at the bottom

The hose that goes to the blaster from the 150 litre compressor is a 1/2" 16 metre retractable hose reel, I also have a at1000 toilet roll air filter to go after that if needed.

If you link through the big nut on the end of each tank it's stronger and you only need one regulator/filter.
1" BSP fittings I think, but it's been a while.
