Linisher speed - metal vs wood?

Hi folks, I know metal needs to be cut at slower speeds to other materials (in general), but how does that apply to abrading?

Does anyone know if, for example, a belt linisher for wood runs at the same speed as a belt linisher for metal?

Is the abrasive actually cutting the material?

The limiting factor with wood is burning the surface, very easy to do with say a sanding disc on an angle grinder. Off the top of my head i'd say you could run faster with metals* and speed versus motor power is probably the bigger issue

*assuming belts etc would take it, a quick google suggests 33m/s is pretty standard speed for industrial kit aimed at metal, seen all sorts of numbers for different flavours wood ranging from under 10m/s upto 30m/s
