Linisher Sander cork and sand paper ques plz

Hi Guys

nearly finished putting back together my linisher/sander

behind the belt there is a rubbing table that supports the belt from being pushed back as you apply force from the front,
this table is lined with 1mm cork, and I am guessing it was oiled to stop it burning,

will and old 1mm cork sheet do the job????

Second question, it has a 12 inch wheel on one end, the sand paper was glued in place, I am trying to find a 12 " sand paper wheel that is held on with velcro, will also need the velcro for the wheel.

were can I find such a thing or is gluing it on a better opption???

Both my Linishers just have a polished steel plate for the back of the belt to rub on. I'm not sure what function the cork is supposed to perform ?

The discs for the combination sanders are usually double sided directly to the face on the machine.

You can get zirconium oxide abrasive paper which cuts for longer than al-ox but it costs more as well.

My linisher has an 8" disk on the side, I buy rolls of abrasive 8" wide, cut disks out of it and stick it on the platen with double sided tape.
Velcro's good if you need to switch grades frequently but is a waste of money if you tend to stick the disk on and leave it there till its worn out.

Here's a question.
If I was to use different grits.
One grit 4 the wheel and a different grit 4 the belt.

We're would you have the finest grit.

That makes sense .. thank you. I do fancy making a belt and disk setup for an old bench grinder thats kicking round the shed ( somewhere )
