Where these older machines ever brought over here in the uk? Seems in the US they have legend status. Just curious as i like the idea of restoring one for myself.
The sa200 are the mocheens used by the murican waleders over the ones we have here (300,400) because of portability.the sa300 and 400 are a fair bit bigger engine wise, generator size and consequently fuel consumption.not ideal when towing through miles of deep muck to the pipeline.
they have less adjustment than than the ones sold here.the sa200 come with 4 or 5 range settings(gears) i.e. coarse volts depending on year and model.some even have aluminium windings to save cost.the 300 has infinite coarse range adjusment for the coarse setting(aswell as a more reliable fordson diesel engine).there is a certain setting between each gear in the 200's that is unattainable, and consequently people go bumping the rack, changing the alignment of the generator fields to get to their desired sweet spot. Some even offer to expand the generator increasing to 7 gears,at huge expense.in the 300 this is never needed.only ever came with with copper windings.
Its up to you whether you spend $8500 on a pimped up chrome plated 200,or £500 on a sa300
A lot of the American generators were either too noisy for EU regulations or ran on petrol which is cheap over there. Some diesels were INSONORISED (love that word) so they could be sold in Europe.
We got the sae400 with either a Perkins or a ford diesel. I've seen a few go on eBay over the last few years. One in London and one in Ireland over the last few months.
Much bigger and heavier than either a red face or a short hood, much much bigger...
Nobody is genuinely looking to buy an sa200 and settles on a cheap trailblazer. The sa is a 100% duty work 20 hours a day for its life downhill machine designed for one thing
The trailblazer is a machine that'll do everything but does it poorly.arc mig tig.it won't last 5 years doing 8 hours a day.
It's like looking to buy a cell capable fronius transpocket, and instead buying an Rtech 3in1
thanks for the replies, it probably just seemed like a great idea in my head. i was just curious if they were officially sold over here, no intention of paying the crazy prices of them over in the us.
