Welding away with my ranger the other day it wasn't welding particularly nice, which was odd, next thing I know the arc just died and the rod was stuck in the pool. Tried a new rod nothing no arc starting. Went to weld and the amps had jumped up by about 50. Turned off turned back on turned amps down and turning the knob all the way down gave me -185 amps. Though here we go left machine for half hour then tried again wouldn't arc at first then it arced up but ran cold. I haven't tested the electric outlets to see if I've got 230 or three phase.
Unit has done 3600 hours I've only had it a few months.
I opened it uo today under the advice of rapid welding to check the brushes. Well it was absolutely filthy never had a blow over with an airgun in its life. Spent half hour with a rag brush and airline cleaning it up. Brushes seem fine with life left springs are good. The slip rings look clean enough no carbon buildup but will give them a go over with a bronze wire brush.
One of the PCBS seems to have some little holes in the resin on both sides of a red tansistor? Could this be the cause?
The auto idle has also been upset on the machine by whatever is causing this.
