On lighter metal you prob would be ok but i doubt if you will do the max 5/16" that the wire is rated for with a 100 amp mig...Bob

Sorry, I was just saying that the wire would be ok in the 3-4mm range - but that would have to depend on your welder giving out enough amps. I wasn't thinking about using 100-130A.
If you already have the wire, you could try beveling the edges of the work-piece, and seeing how well it penetrates. But I wouldn't really expect 4mm welds from 100A output.
You could probably go slightly thicker amp for amp with gasless wire, as the arc burns hotter, but the difference would be almost negligible compared to having more amps to use.

Couldn't say for sure, your best bet would be to try it and see. I have some of that wire, and could set up a weld (assuming I could reliably guess where 100A is on my welder) travel quite slowly, bevel the edges, and see how well it penetrated.
I don't know how far the hotter arc of flux-cored wire translates into material thickness, but when you're using it for bodywork thicknesses, it feels like a fair amount - but that's trying to use it at the thinnest end of it's range, so the effect would likely be felt much less as the material got thicker, and the desperation not to blow holes was reduced!
Does the welder you're using top out at 100 or 130 amps, I looked on your profile, but it doesn't say. If you're limited to 100a, it won't be any easier.

Well, that could go in your favour - if you're going to be welding those thicknesses regularly, make sure you get one with more amps than we've been talking about.
Always end up needing more amps than you imagined, and always sooner than you thought - if that makes sense?
