My Lincoln mig has developed a a very annoying creak and groan when i'm welding, it sounds like it's coming from the reel spool but I'm bu**ered if I can find out where from anyone got any ideas....apart from covering everything in that area in wd.......

I know you said it sounds like its coming from the spool but I had something similar a while ago and (despite my suspicions of the wirefeed) it turned out to be the regulator. The noise went away after a while.

As in gas regulator Graham...?

Ok tried it minus gas... still there, stuck my hand in through the spool and put some pressure on the inside edge to force it away from the case where the spindle comes through.....gone.....wd at that area.....silent....so easy fix.

Yes, mine was the gas regulator - I unhooked the wirefeed tension roller and the noise was still there so it soon became clear it wasn’t a wirefeed issue in my case (also fiddled with the wirefeed speed control and got no change).
