Lightning delivery

Ordered some new head phones the other day through amazon on tuesday using my amazon prime. I ordered them at 21:00 roughly and i get an email through saying they will arrive to tomorrow (the wedensday) and think nothing of it as it normally takes them two days to get stuff up here to fort william. Wendensday morning 10:45 am theres a knock at the door heres your amazon package delivered curtsy of royal mail. How did they do it and why cant other companies deliver up here that fast for that little for small items such as that.

Ordered a heating controller on a Sunday arrived about 5 hours later same day.

Angle grinder packed up on Tuesday and I ordered a new one, arrived 11.00am Wednesday via DPD, thanks Toolstore. Not as far as the Highlands but still impressed.

I’ve never understood the Scottish highlands thing, it’s not like it’s another country. I’m sure people are understanding of an extra day or two but exorbitant charges or “can’t go there, it’s a different planet” is just ridiculous.

Seen companies based in northern England do free delivery anywhere in england but have a £50 quid delivery charge for central scotland.

Believe it or not, I've seen companies in Scotland advertise free delivery to UK destinations [e.g. Cornwall] but a delivery surcharge for the Highlands - you'd think they'd know their own country.......

Many Sellers assume automatically that we all live either in the Western Isles, Orkney, or Shetland.

And as far as Chinese sellers adopting the "Doesn't post to Scottish Highlands" - what the Hell difference does it make when the item is coming from halfway round the planet???

Don't get me started, the number of times I find the correct item on ebay but then I see the 'Doesn't post to Northern Ireland'.

What's even worse is when they list Royal Mail or Hermes as their courier, neither of which have any surcharge to NI!

Pay for an ZF power take off gearbox for a 4WD Alfa on Saturday morning, as sold on ebay in Poland. Pay 50 quid delivery.

Take phone call at work Monday mid morning from someone I thought was a scam artist . . . turned out to be a Polish van driver with my gearbox!

I will often pay a bit more for an item on Amazon just so I can get it the next day, ebay can be a bit hit and miss.

If you are into cycling another site which is amazing for delivery is Wiggle, anything in stock and ordered up till 22:00 is delivered next day and instead of paying £4.99 which worth every penny you pay £9.99 which covers you for a whole year of next day deliveries! Stupid thing is they are also way cheaper than most places as well. It now means I can order a £3 cable late evening and still get it next day.

Had some snotty guy on ebay message me after id bought a vw golf passanger window door card regulator assembly off him. Something that he couldnt post it to the highlands for the money that ebay had calculated and charged me during the sale. There were no notices in the add saying it would be more for delivery to the highlands and he wanted £30 to have a £15 second hand part posted. Told him he can either post it or cancel the order as amazon can manage it. Said back huffily this isnt amazon (no clue about coustomer comes first or anything like that) so went back on ebay ordered one which said postage would be £12 and it was no fuss or worries. They dont seem to get it if there is no get out clause in the advert then they have too lump it.

I once received a postcard from a friend on holiday in Germany.

She didn't know my address off hand so it had a hand drawn map and the village name.

It made it. Very impressive.

use a shipping forwarder. i use one for american stuff that doesnt post to the uk. dont see why the same wouldn't work for N.I....

ordered a speaker of amazon 9 pm and it was there the next day by dinnertime what the hell would we do without the internet stuff used to take days and telephone calls week days only ./ now you order on Christmas day etc
