Lighting question

Hi all

I've finally got round to cutting my imp apart and all went well with the drivers side sill. Now though I have realised that my diy welding tent has cut down the available light to about nil.

I've got a sif lite mask which is adjustable but there's no lighting present in the carport at all.

I was looking at 'builder's' style halogen spotlights, either on stands or just on the floor but dunno if they will cause more problems than they will solve. I've seen posts talking about led headtorches which would be cheaper but would also be the only light source.

Should I get some basic strip lighting out there and then some led headtorches or freestanding ones, or would halogen workshop lamps be better? Any help would be greatly appreciated

What ever lighting you go for, you might want to paint (cheep white emulsion) as much around the area to reflect the lighting as posible ie the plywood sheets and maybe the blue sheeting. Keep an eye on lidl and Aldi for the LED panels they do from time to time. One I use is 72 LED's. Near £30 but cheeper than other places. I am working in similar situation but have not blocked the ends due to lighting. If you go for builders type they will be expensive to run (500w lamps) You go in for lunch and forget to turn off £££. Why not go for the security type with pir sensor. Just have to move from time to time : ). Have got a proper workshop manual for the imp somewhere. Have had Imp (singer) van and Imp car many moons ago.

get a couple of these find a local electric wholesalers near you make sure you get tubes for them you want (warm white) ones

if you use these wire with 3 core cable to a plug the cover will stop the weld spark's etc

Now I know what's going on santa's list! Hopefully I can get on with sticking some bits of metal back onto my little orange beast soon.
I've got a Haynes manual for the imp, cheers Mike. It's helped me fill my garage with important looking engine components so far!!

If a halogen lamp is good enough for the queen house then it'd make quick work of my castle (wonder if I could claim £36m... )

I use something similar to this:

240 volt, 38 watt, and there are two 240v sockets on the back which are useful for plugging grinders and suchlike into. Plenty of light to weld with and 38w consumption is kind to your leccy bill.

in my opinion a headtorch attached to your helmet is best as it always points at the work wherever you are working and it is cheap to
