I bought the lidl soldering iron to use with the batteries I have. Did abit of YouTube and them and a video of the chap lowering the temp fitting a regulator. And in the comments some one posted that you can do this with the power on button So I thought it would be useful for people that want to buy one so I'll attach the reply they gave.
