Now I said he should just buy a decent MIG seeing as he hasn't really welded before. I would even pay towards it, because I wouldn't mind learning to weld too.
However, for £30, you can't really go to wrong. Wondering if anyone has any experience of these Lidl specials?
Are they actually worth £30, or should he not bother?
Lidl welder threads merged.
As possible as it may be that they're the best quality machines on the face of the planet, we don't really need umpteen threads about them.![]()
From your description it was the slag (the protective covering of the weld bead) that fell off.Sorry to resurrect this thread but LiDL are at it again. It looks slightly different to the picture above and the spec sheet says it is 75A / 21v - 100A / 22A. Model number is Parkside PESG 120 B3. It looks like it has a variable output (big three pointed knob on the front) but in fact it is a 2 position switch marked 1.6 / 2.0 on one position and 2.5 on the other - this should be set according to the thickness of the stick. They were also selling 2.5mm sticks to go with it so I snagged a few boxes. Now, I've never tried stick welding before but for £40 I thought I'd try it. I managed to strike an arc up but the test welds didn't penetrate at all. Weld just fell off the work piece with a light whack. It's probably my lack of skills, or the thickness of the bits I was mucking about with, or the fact that they were plated.. or it could be I had the switch set wrong...
