Had a proud dad moment as my daughter carried the flag for her brownies group for our local parade.

I did have to reign in my desire to shout “get your f@*€$!n arms up lofty, or you’ll be marching around this parade ground until your legs drop off” at some of the slovenly marching - but then I realised they were only about 12 years old so I thought I’d better cut them some slack

So many memories. I am very pleased to see that the length and breadth of our nation, these memories are being kept alive by the younger generation. This is very important, as those who fought in the Great War are now all gone, and even WW2 is now beginning to pass from living memory.

I have been chatting a lot to my dad recently, hearing how he watched dogfights over the Forth, trains loaded with tanks heading south, his uncle who came back from being a prisoner working on the Burma railroad a changed man (not for the better) and my despatch rider uncle who came back from Dunkirk with shrapnel he lived with until his recent death.

Indeed. I was a very proud Father on Sunday to see my youngest Son, who has featured in some of my posts on here, take part in our local remembrance day parade as part of his Boy's Brigade Battalion.

I posted previously a picture of my great Uncle George on his BSA M21 in Egypt during the war:

He died yesterday, the end of an era for my family, he was the last family member to have served in WW2, he was apparently never ill, his only health issue was shrapnel from Dunkirk.

Sad though he had a good innings.
