How do regulations cope with LED bulbs?

In the good old days reversing light bulbs had to be 21 watts (max), because 21 watt bulbs wouldn't dazzle anyone. Clearly a 21 w LED bulb would be like a searchlight so the wattage rating can't be applied.

oops, sorry that was a reply to an earlier post


regulations still go by wattage, but essentially, MOT testers don't care as long as they work and look ok (their rules basically sat that - I asked an MOt tester)

headlights are a different kettle of fish, beam pattern etc... I'd love some LED headlight bulbs but there's non out there right now that can give the proper beam angle/pattern
