Depends where you live but round here then police are pretty enthusiastic about pulling over. I would just wire them into the main beam only.

yes most round here dont like any light that are under car etc
years ago i had 2 fog lights wired to the high beams as car lights where a bit carp lights on cars these days are good and very little need for any extras unless you like the cops pulling you over a fair bit if you drive at night alot

I had 2 long range cibie spots on my mk2 escort van with 100w bulbs in. they were brill on a night cant say I had anyone not dip there lights if I put them on 
had 100w main head light bulbs in aswell as

Ive 2 light bars on the pickup. the front is relayed through the main beam and a switch so it can be disabled. the rear is relayed through the reverse light switch, again on a switch so it can be disabled. they both get flicked off at MOT time. Ive also switched them so they can be switched on independently of the ignition for when working on the yard etc at night and need some extra light on the job
