as a replacement to the standard halogen bulbs which as others have said keep blowing at the drop of a hat and dont seem to be as good as they used to.
i have a gooseneck lamp over the welding bench and a small flurecent over the grinding bench but the main lighting is the halogen lamps. i dread to think how much i have spent on bulbs in the past but hopefully these will do what they say and cut my leccy bill whilst lasting a lot longer with the added bonus of not toasting me whilst im working...

What sort of lamp do they go into, standard 500 watt type or the smaller 150 W sort?

You do know that only works on 110volts and reverse polarity

these are the smaller ones for the 150w sort (78mm), i will report back as soon as i have them and maybe do a short video.

at the price i will give them a shot but if they dont work out i may look at other options. i used to have all strip lights but for some reason the tubes kept going on them so i swapped to halogen, oddly though the strip light over the grinding bench at the back of the garage is the only one that lasted without probs.

rather than start a new thread, i have several 10w led flood lights(good value now!)..i currently(pun),have three of them switched through a pir sensor, lights the shed/yard area a treat.. question,i want to add more, will the one sensor be ok ?is there a limit (within reason)to how many i can trigger?..six lights would only be 60w..so not mutch draw...

Depends on the PIR rating, if you use one off a higher wattage halogen you should be ok.

I've come across LED replacement bulbs that can be fitted in place of the halogen bulb, anyone have any experience of these, about 8 quid is from eBay

Yes I have one in my front door light I think it had 90 leds in 3 banks 8w IIRC. works ok, blue white colour has been fine i was thinking of getting one for the dogs light at the back its been in about 2-3yrs. I have looked on the bay re the same 90 led ones but I think the one I got was pre cree tec but the beauty I find with them is they solve the limited spread of the standard hal deep fitting because the actual leds are much further out than the centre line of the hal.

Ive just seen you can buy the replacement SMD chips real cheap.

Wonder if you could put a higher wattage chip in one of the cheap 10w ones without blowing something?

I've got a couple of 10W leds at the side of my house that I used to replace 150W halogens and I prefer the light from the LED's. I dont normally use them unless Im working outside, but I also have some solar powered led pir lights that give enough light to see where you're putting your feet or putting a key in a lock. being solar powered you dont have the hassle of wiring them up either. One of them is partially covered, but as the have aa sized rechargeable batteries if they do get discharged in winter they are easy enough to recharge during the day. they look to be the same as these

i did look at those ones too but unfortunatley they are the larger size, shame because they look pretty decent.

LED's need a constant current power supply and a decent heatsink, so fitting a higher powered LED isn't as easy as it sounds as they would need to be matched.

Just ordered one for the inlaws garden light - replacement for a 100w lamp I will let you know what it's like when it turns up.
