I need to put a light in the under stairs cupboard cos its dark in there. There is a socket in it which i put in to charge th'oover (Spur off lounge ring main on the other side of the wall).

I can't easily get to any part of the lighting circuit elsewhere to connect to without meaning loads of patching....can i connect to the socket ring main? Allowed or not? What would i need to do?....FCU spured off the socket, then just switch the live and up to a bub holder?

Whats stopping you buying a wall light and plugging it into socket? simple and less hassle of spurring of the socket..

Just not a very tidy job. I can have the cable pulled through the wall and the job done in not much more than an hour...as long as i can come out of the socket.

u can take of the ringmain with 2.5mm cable to a fused switched spur from a socket or anywhere on the ring with a jointbox and use that as a switch then off in 1.0mm to the light and change the fuse in the spur to a 5amp or a 3
