Lechler Epoxy Primer - Do I also need another high build primer?

Hi,
I will be spraying Lecher Epoxy Primer on bare metal, and one top colour coat will be Cellulose.
Do I need another high build primer in between or any other product?

Inside and outside of a mini.

The cellulose can go straight onto to the epoxy primer. You only use high build to improve the quality of the result. You can get some build from the epoxy primer.

If it was my car I would not use high build on the inside but unless the panels were perfect, or its a racing car, I would use high build on the outside.

Totally depends on the straighness of your panelwork, if your happy with what you have then just use epoxy, if not then add hi build, the epoxy will build fairly well but not as good as the hi build, hence the name

My preference is to put another coat of epoxy on, if I want to block back more. Always best to keep the variations to a minimum in my experience.

absolutely no problem putting a decent hi build of epoxy mate

Yes Steve appreciate that. I was thinking non epoxy, ordinary high build which is something that seems to be causing issues with Scimitars and microblistering. Not sure what stuff Reliant used, but as you sand back the paint, the problem is clearly in the spray filler and not the fibreglass itself. I had an email asking about that problem which I had in my head still! I have to compose and write a response to this:



Would you give me some words of advice I can reply with about products for preparation of a 60's fibreglass Sabra in Italy.


My sprayer shop has used sprayable polyester ( don't know more) and then sprayable filler filler to get the body straight. Rubbed off several times that filler and put a new layer etc etc. Finally sprayed the whole car with something black !! and rubbed this off again. Don't know why either.
He did the same excellent job on my blue GT 4870 five? years ago. Now first "bubbles" are slightly visible on the bonnet, no cracks. osmose bubbles, can't be helped on our cars because of the quality of the resin and glassfiber. Says now that he added the sprayable polyester to prevent the osmose bubbles. I will see in 5 years.

Zanoni has finished all body work and was ready to paint. The paint company told him that using filler would crack the paint and is better without filler. His problem that he had to use filler and there were some waives. He is using gel as well. What do you know? Keeping body with waives or use filler and if yes which filler is compatible to the fiber? Tks

I can identify your problem easily bud, its the spray filler, I don't know anybody that uses it these days as it sucks up moisture like a sponge !!! terrible stuff
When it first came out years ago it was heralded as a fix all and marvelous stuff but people quickly found it to be the major cause of microblistering, I don't know anyone that will have it in their shop these days, I certainly wouldn't !!!

My method for grp is very simple, I key with 120 then 3 good coats of epoxy, then filler work, then seal with 2 more coats of epoxy, sand and hi build if needed, then topcoat, this has served me well and never had any problems so see no need to change.
I and my paint friends have found regular 2k hi build doesn't stick to grp as well as you would expect.
