Leather-lined drawers

No, not that sort :whistle:

I'm cracking on with some fitted dressing room wardrobes, drawers etc and I want to line a couple of the drawers out with leather.

The drawers are going to have a 100mm or so deep drawer box and the dividers around 50mm high for keeping small treasure in.

Has anyone had a go at this and can offer advise on material and technique? :thumbup:

My father has lined little decorative boxes before. He used a thin leather and I'm sure he soaked it first and pushed it in to make a 'form' as it dried and used a wooden 'paint scraper' to get down into the corners, then removed, glued and replaced with weights and clamps while it set. Not sure what adhesive he used but knowing him it would have probably been titebond 2 or 3.

The trickier bit for him was getting the corners to look good where the cut edges had to meet.

No idea if that was the right way to do it but it worked, he still has the box

I’ve made a few writing bureaus in the past and used thin coloured leathered glued on with contact adhesive.

How about cutting thin card to the sizes of the faces, covering with thin leather then glueing on.
I've done the insides of consoles but the leather I've used was about 1.4mm thick but it can be thinned down, decent contact adhesive for glueing.
