Learning Welding

Right.I would love to learn welding.I am thinking about getting a welder and trying it out,but what equipment would i need? As in a few years time i would like to be able to weld exhausts and roll cages,so would i need a tig or mig welder?

Welcome to the forum.

I would say go for MIG, it's cheaper and easier to learn.

Upgrade when you're sure of exactly what you need, by that time technology will have advanced and hopefully prices fallen.

Thanks for your help.Is TIG more neater welds i gather though? And how can i learn whats the best temperature etc and everything.As i have know clue yet .

I think neatness is more a factor of the expertise of the operator. I'm sure I could produce some ghastly welds with TIG without much effort at all! And I've seen some very neat MIG welds done by experts.

Finding optimum settings is more trial and error at first and then experience as you get to know your equipment.
