I have been trying to submit an order but came across a new "feature". They now demand a "Tax ID EORI" and will not complete the transaction without it. They have never done this before and they clearly don't understand that individuals and small businesses don't require one.

Before I submit to order elsewhere (what a faff), is there any sensible workaround known please?

I don't know a workaround (apart from contacting them to place the order manually) but if you apply for an eori number online it will get generated instantly..and its free..

...unless like me you forgot you already had one and request another...I think a human being may then get involved which adds a day or two delay.

My Ltd company is dormant and I don't want to use its details. I was making the order as a private individual, to which it doesn't apply anyway and it doesn't look like you can apply unless you are a Ltd company regardless.

You can apply as an individual.
Individuals do need one for certain things, importing aluminium is one reason..

I've got an EORI and I'm not a limited company.
I had to apply for one when I was importing a CNC machine, as it was needed for the customs paperwork.
