The brazed tip tool sets are not sharpened as new and require a green wheel to get them cutting properly + if it is a Clarke you may not have the grunt available to run them properly.
CCMT are common so easy to get new inserts. If you find yourself needing fine cuts to finish CCGT for alloy work on steel at HSS speeds and light feeds. The really cheap ones are unhappy on interrupted cuts and chip the edges.

Green wheels are for the bin. Alumina for roughing HSS and diamond resin wheels for touching up or carbide.
Smaller inserts with a small nose radius are better for a small lathe. "Light finishing" inserts are what you should use for light finishing.. and most small lathe work comes under that category.
Look on ebay for ccmt0602 or dcmt0702 and find some decent branded ones. For steel, you need inserts for steel, ones listing stainless may seem a good idea but they are usually a poor choice for steel.

If you must, use one already worn on non ferrous and flatten the top against a diamond wheel to make it less agressive - you will need to adjust the tool height if doing this.

IME they work just fine on steel, certainly at the DoC achievable on little Chinese lathes. Leave a nice finish, too.

CCGT in GENERAL is for aluminium and non ferrous, but not always.
You can get CCGTs suitable for steel, good for finishing cuts and boring. They're just not very common.

That is true except they are using and recommending non ferrous H01 grades rather than suitable steel grades, a d that is what Im refering to.
They may be usable on leaded mild steel but its not a material I use. In my opinion they are not suitable for any better grades of steel and there are much better options.
The proper way to use carbide is to take reasonable cuts, measure and repeat. It gives a better finish but takes some trial and error to hit accurate dimensions. Get it wrong and the part may be scrap - so treat roughing cuts as practise.
I have some excellent light finishing inserts but sadly discontinued on that shop now, DCET0702's.
CCET/DCET's usually have a single side chip breaker, and will produce nice C chips at much lower feeds, much finer depth of cut and still a good finish. Very durable too, last a long time.

rarely use tct unless its hard material, hss does 90 percent of turning if you sharpen them properly ,most folk dont know how to

I concur especially on a Machine Mart type machine. Its not actually difficult to grind your own either, plenty info on line or engineering books.

Hss does work but its slower, worse finish. Sharpening is easy but it means getting the bench/diamond grinder out, which is an outdoors job for me. Swapping an insert is more convienient. The good inserts last a lot longer than the time between HSS sharpenings.
Hss is good for small boring bars and form tools. I have a large 5kg tin from an old toolmaker.

I use a mix of hss, brazed carbide and carbide insert tools. I bought a 30 quid set of 5 insert tools that took common Inserts and they do 90% of my turning, I bought a 20mm wnmg tool that I had to modify to fit, but it removes bulk material like nothing else, I have brazed carbide and hss for the odd shaped tooling and 1 time things. I find there is no 1 set fits all sort of thing
