lathe swing out tool table

Fed up of all the clutter on the head stock I decided I needed a small table to put tooling etc, that I could move out of the way when not in use.

At first I was just going to use a TV wall stand, but the old CRT type are like rocking horse ****. So I built one instead.

Ooooh hang on: the butler informs me my bath is ready.

You never know Fran

Started off by welding 4 6x20mm service washers to some .09mm toob I've had for yonks. These were then welded to 4 legs same wall but 17ishmm. In turn welded to some 37.2mmx2.6mm (1 1/4") CDS this sits on a spigot I usually use to butt the 37.22mm with. and again to the upright fixed the the lathe bed. The lower spigot was rosette welded to the upright.

it the last picture the tube looks to be massive in relation to the filler wire, it's a bit of 1.6mm (I get my moneys worth)

The small tubes were a loose telescopic fit (unlike the CDS) so worth keeping for the last umptine yrs It cleaned up well but was not easy to weld, I used some A18 .6mm MIG wire for table and 1.6mm A15 for the rest. All on the pedal.

er just realised I haven't got any picture of that stage so this is how it turned out

Top is some Ali sheet 440x320mm. It was welded for the most part autogenously, it needs no strength it was faster, and I'm not one for chasing dimes.
Oh and I made sure you can still remove the end cover for weekly serving and gear ratio changes.

I'll strip it down tomorrow blast it, and give it a few coats of the same stuff the lathe is painted in. Appen it'l loook all factory leek. I wonder how much 600 Group would charge for it (Mmmm rumbs chin)

Cheers Guys. Just been to Ikea for some housey stuff and picked up a knife draw tidy for 59p for one side, drill sets will go at the other side I think

Finally another reason to use for the first time some cork and rubber matting a mate gave me. I used Contact adhesive to stick it down after I decided I couldn't be arsed to clean out the paint gun if I painted the same colour of the lathe, so used rattle cans, met Silver for the top and gloss black for the frame work, although I ran out of paint for that so no pics
