So I just bought a Denford Viceroy lathe as spares or repairs. I'm currently painting it as it's already in bits and I figure better now than when it's all one big lump! The motor that is in it is the original and works fine and is pretty quiet and it uses pulleys to change the speed. The guy I bought it from said he had trouble getting the belt tension right and I can see why as the brackets that hold the countershaft (?) are missing and he had been trying to really badly bodge it. So I will have to sort something out for that and even then to change the speed have to mess around with the belts AND even with the backgear thing engaged the slowest speed is like 75 which is surely to fast for threading?
Sooooo. What are my options with fitting a motor which I can control the speed? Thus eliminating the belt changing etc? I have see people using treadmill motors on myfords and stuff but would that not be powerful enough?
Cheers
