Hi all,
not posted for ages but tend to keep a watch on what is happening on the forum. Anyway, I have now got a problem and going back through some old threads it looks as though there are some members with the knowledge to help me if they would be so good.
I have recently bought a Boxford VSL lathe in a fairly neglected condition and am in the process of getting it up and running. I am starting with the stand and its components and have changed various bearings and keys etc to eliminate the play, I am running from an inverter so have altered the wiring on the motor and coolant pump to delta and wedged the magnetic contacter closed and all is fine. However, the electronic taco refuses to work. When I switch on the LO Vo transformer, wired for 12 volt output, the taco needle slams against its stop, (transformer output measuring 3vac). Also, if I have the transformer swiched on as the inverter ramps up, I get a steady increase in the taco reading, so I am assuming that the taco is reading the input frequency.
Sorry to be so long winded, but I would really apreciate some help with this as once it is sorted, I will fit the lathe to the stand and find out what horrors lie in store for me there, though the only wear of any consequence that I have found so far is a badly worn cross slide screw and nut.
Thanks in advance,
Ben
