I had a problem with my welding set up getting covered in sawdust. I asked my girlfriend, who is handy with a sewing machine, To knock a tailor made cover up out of old curtains.

WD isn't useless and ACF can be gummy, depends on how you apply either, would agree a good spray over with WD and a breathable sheet

What about a 40 watt tubular greenhouse heater for £16.60 from Ebay? A bit safer than a bare bulb.

I find slideway oil works well for the slideways, everything else, ACF50 for longterm or ISO68 hydraulic oil as used for plain headstock bearings.

I find beeswax polish quite handy. The Johnson's spray tins, I believe it is.

I use an old Duvet / blankets and with an old fasioned work light...(mains with a wire basket and clamp)
then leave a curley wurley 11w bulb running 24/7.....
I have over 8 machines that need it.....cost really nothing compared to rust...!!!!!
My old house was a 17th century water mill...lime stone walls.....u couln't get a worse place for machinery.....
no rust ever and apart from the wood machines they all had suds for cooling....
the building was virtually an open barn...no heating for me.....

I use two bed sheets and still get condensation. WD40 useless. Keep meaning to get something like ACF50

+1 for ACF50.

I can just bring my stuff in, no explanations/excuses. Saying that though, am beginning to wonder which is looking most like a workshop now. Workshop or flat.

My surface grinder disagrees but ground surfaces do like to rust

Thankfully my boiler is in the garage and haven't had issues over the last 7 years with condensation or rusting.

I find the opposite with ground surfaces!

To be fair a surface grinder doesn't really get covered in oily swarf.

my lathe cover is a repurposed army oven cloth, it'll be 45 years old now

I use one on the bed of my milling machine in winter, I hadn't been in my garage for a few days and with the recent warm and wet weather found this as it hadnt been covered up

and for the column/head I use a cover for a chimnea, which also keeps abrasive dust off when grinding near it

I just wipe cheap 3 in 1 type oil over the steel surfaces to stop them rusting, but I use a 1/2" paintbrush rather than a cloth as the brush gets into the corners, but a cloth doesnt.
