About 45 years ago I was given three lasts, I used to use them as portable anvils in the days when I was daft enough to crawl under rotten Cortinas and Austin 1100's welding on patches, I'd forgotten about them till a recent shed clear out turned up this one, don't know what happened to the others so this is the last last...

Its a bit rusty, been in the shed since I don't know when

A quick clean up on the wire wheel improves it a bit

Followed by a quick squirt of matt black, and we have a new but very old doorstop for the kitchen.

There's one on our hearth that used to have 3 different size feet on but one broke off years ago.

One of mine was a three legged (footed) one, I'm hoping it may yet turn up.

Blakeys also used to make segs, we would put them on our shoes as kids so we could kick up sparks, although if you overdid it with the amount you could end up on your 'arris

Segs used to be all the fashion when I was a a kid, as you say could easily perform unwanted acrobatics if not careful, you could never sneak up on anyone either, they would hear you coming from a hundred yards away.

lol we used to put 2 rows of segs in our army boots they had leather soles and fitted with a horseshoe heel plate and a toe plate .once booted someone up the leg with them and left a few stripes also on motorbike if anyone was right up your rear end just put your feet down and shower them with sparks and crap them were the days

My friend found a load of them in a box in his cellar, apparently he used to use them as boat anchors.

Seen a few used as door stops but never knew what they were called/ for. just had a google.

Ive got one under the bench as well, it was my fathers, possibly my grandfathers originally. I've kept to use as a small anvil to shape sheet metal over, but it's not moved for 20 years!

I used to have a very small one, obviously intended for children's' shoes. Can't remember what happened to it, might have been thrown out during a house move.
