Larger gas bottles on Migmate 130

Does anyone know if it's possible to attach a larger gas bottle to a Migmate 130? I'm sick to death of running out of gas just about every time I use it - it happened again yesterday after the shops were shut - and don't like the whole disposable thing anyway. I assume that a new regulator would be required, but does anybody make one that'll fit the existing plastic gas pipe?

I've been told that David Hunt Tools (near Reading) supply a larger version of the disposable bottle but I'd rather use a generic type that I could get from any welding supplier.

yes you will need a new regulator and you can get a new one with a push fit connection to the nylon pipe

PM Weldequip here on the forum, he can tell you exactly what you need, and supply the parts as well.

Be aware that the bigger bottles are, well, bigger And your welder might not have a shelf that will take one. If this is the case, then you can make a welding trolley (or cart as some call them)

Have a search of the forums for ideas, or google it. They are also a good project to practice welding on

Thanks - I use the welder in my garage so it doesn't get moved around much, although I'll build a trolley if I find I need it.

I have a large bottle on my Migmate 130T. I bought a regulator from Weldequip. I eventually bought a trolley with a cylinder shelf on the back. Even though I tend to weld only in the garage, having both welder and cylinder on a trolley makes it a lot easier to weld where I want to weld.

I'm basically doing the same - ordered a regulator from Welequip (should arrive tomorrow, hopefully) and got the smallest BOC cylinder that they carry at Allweld. The guy there said the cylinder is equal to about 170 of the disposable ones.

If I need to I'll make a trolley (I have some old wheels for it) but at the moment most of my welding is done on a bench so it's not a problem.

Remember that the cylinder should be secured to something so there is no chance of it falling over and getting damaged. Many people don't seem to bother but I get a bit paranoid about it. My Argoshield cylinder (Size X? The small one) is chained to the trolley and my (bigger) argon cylinder for the TIG is strapped to the garage wall.
