I am normally good at the pre MOT check, today I failed -on 3 counts with my Defender that was rebuilt on a galvanised chassis 2 years ago and only done 7k miles since!
Rear fog light not working, leak from fuel filter and worn bushes on Panhard rod.
I was perhaps over confident, though I had checked all the lights last weekend. I thought, probably a bulb, nip up the fuel filter I had changed last weekend and probably slack bolts as Panhard rod had new bushes 2 years ago.
I was wrong - fog light turned out to be a badly corroded electrical terminal, when I pulled it off the tangs on the the light came off stuck in the terminal - so new terminal and light ordered as gave up trying to get the broken bits out.
The fuel filter would be simple though.. nipped up as tight as I would dare and still a very slight drip appearing at the top of the filter, so took the cartridge off to confirm the housing had corroded away to the extent that there was inadequate sealing area - so new filter housing ordered.
And of course the poly bushes in the Panhard rod were shot, so back to new original rubber ones.
Suppose at least no welding required
