Hi all , Does any one on here have a 3d printer and would be able to print a badge for me, suitable recompense available, the badge is one that mates to the underside of the standard oval with the logo
4 x 2 ,
the normal ones have station wagon as a logo , my landy is a rare S2 4 x 2 mk6 1/4 ton 1959, thanks

No I am afraid I don't , not that computer literate but the Series 2 Land rover club has a badge of the shape with its own logo on it "built two last" if that helps my case ,

Have to agree with @julianf - if your one is so rare I'd want to keep her as true to original as possible. Unless you're saying that the badge is no longer available to order from LR?

I think that the oval is cast. I don't know about the add on bit.

3d printed, without some amont of finishing will look like a lump of plastic stuck on. I don't think it would be worth the bother for the end result.

I do CNC work, which would get closer, but, again, if you can't get it right, is there any point?

The example above is also an inverse of what you want. On the badge, the silver are the high points. On my part, the silver areas are the recesses.

Try and get speaking to an owner who has one, and is willing to take a mould from it...

That's best route I can think of, considering how rare they seem to be....

Hi there are no owners of the add on , I have the ovals. The add on is just a bit of fancy for my 4 x 2 , the original is a pressed aluminium oval , these with Birmingham on and not Solihull haven't been available since 1959, 60.

There's a range between a cr@p copy, and a great copy.
The time needed to produce will, im certain, follow exactly the same scale! : )

A good copy will take a good number of hours of work, and probably some expensive machinery, but im certain its possible.

I guess it just depends on where on the range the weight of your wallet falls. Even a 3d printed one will require someone to spend some time in CAD before even printing it, and the result will probably be down at the cr@p end of the scale.

I guess the way to make a good replica would be to do the CAD, then CNC the part direcly, or, possibly, make a pattern and cast them.
You could simplify the CAD massively by supplying a good, to scale, image. That would negate someone having to redraw from scratch.


Im not after the work (well, not unless they're way more valuable than i expect! : ) but im still curious as to what anyone would think (a replica of) the badge to be worth? I mean, if you saw one in a shop?

The badges are not available, it's something unique but he wants it to look like a factory fitted item.

I know. Maybe I should not have said "shop" - but I mean if he could just buy one without having to talk to anyone. I mean, would it be worth £20 or £120?

@£20 noone would put the time in to make it, but, as the price went up, at some point, someone would.

There's a bloke on EBay that sells Landie stuff. A lot of replica badges, he might be able to help you get one made. He goes under the name charlieccu

Thanks will look at his shop,
as said it is just a bit of fancy but I want it to look "correct", one under each of the original badges, my landy is NOT a 4wd vehicle it was built as a 4 x 2 and as such there are very few left in this format, just a little tweak to make it a little different, the badge would fit against the underside,

A friend came over today, and, by chance, he was driving his S2.

We had a look at the badges, and then the badge on my 101, which, even though ive owned it best part of 20yrs, ive never really looked at the badge..

Anyway, the 101 badge, and the S2s were all the same. They're pressed - they must be alloy, a no sign of rust at all.


The finish would suite sand casting well. The background is stippled, whilst the higher parts are smooth. With a coarse-ish sand, the back will be textured, and the top can be sanded flush. i think that the end product would be virtually indistinguishable from the original. It may need to be very slightly thicker, but not a visible amount really.

To produce the part, you would need someone to -

a) do the CAD for the part
b) produce a pattern, either on a mill, or with a 3d printer
c) cast the part
d) finish the part (although possibly you might do this yourself)

This would give you an excellent reproduction.

Hi, yes the badges are pressed, would the 3d printed part be durable? if so that would suffice,
painting etc I could do myself,it's only a bit of fun but want it to look "correct ", the car is unusual, I went to the pub today , a chap came in and asked about the land rover and asked where the hi,lo , four wheel drive levers were, took a bit of convincing it was only built as 2 wd,

Ive seen 3d printed stuff thats been filled, sanded, and painted, and it looks ok, but you still need the CAD done.
