I have to move in the not to distant future, and I will need a car so the sorned in 2012 land rover has to be used. Or should I say resurected, it’s looking wirse the more I look at it. It will be my rainy weather veehicle and to pick up bike parts n such, oh and to move all my treasure. I was quite surprised the motor turns over, I was expeciting to have to put a Cummins in it. So oil change n clean fuel and I will see if I can start it. Tanks are full of crustyness n oily goo, so will run it from a can until I clean the tanks. Put a new oil filter on and drained the old black goo. Decided I needed to put the oil into an oil gallery, with a mind full of the pressure vessel i was going to make from an old fork leg, and blow the oil in half a litre at a time. So i made the fitting to go in the T piece the pressure sender is in, and take a bit of nylon tube, then realised I could just stick a syringe of oil on the tube and put the oil in 60cc at a time! 8x6 is well a **Language** of a lot of syringe fulls of oil, well 500/60and oh well I don’t need to know. But probably as quick as making something.

Once engine runs I guess I need to put rad back on, fill with water and see if head gasket leaks. Before I took the rad off I found a can to save the water n antifreeze in. I pulled the top hose off and it was dry as a dry thing.

what land rover is it?

the only good thing i could ever say about my td5 was that it always started...never usually moved, or turned off when requested and usually wasnt happy about having to run...but it always started

I'm guessing 21/4 Diesel engine.

Crank it till it starts, let it idle for a couple of minutes.
No need to charge the oil galleries.

Montego engine. They used to be free.
Well I tried.
I siphoned a gallon of diesel out o my dads saab, yep I did it old school and
was stood there gobbing a mouthfull of diesel out. went to crank it, could’t remember what i crossed on the solenoid, or if I put a spanner across the starter. had a look in the landy, where is the ignition, how do i crank it over? turned out the inspection lamp had stolen the volts out of the brand new battery! Anyway it went clickty clickty, so some progress and It didn’t burst into flames when all the mouse eaten wiring got volts.

The clever charger is inserting some new volts into the battery, and I will try again tomorrow.
I filled the fuel filter brimmingly full of fuel, I cracked the injectors, I remember cracking something on the pumps, can’t remember what though? The old fuel filter had lovely clean stuff in, was only about half full though.

If your engine has been standing since 2012 I'd be tempted to remove glow plus and squirt Redex or similar into the cylinders and turning over with stop solenoid connection disconnected for a while before trying to start.

Only electrics that seem to work is the rear lights!
I can see the moose hoose stuff behind the bits of dash I haven’t yet taken off.

I assumed the timing pulleys were going to be rusty and I would have to replace belt n pulleys. but the pulleys and belt look fine. the belt cover needs some plastic welding.
