Land Rover spec lift

Sorting through some pics from my recovery days and found these of a LWB station wagon with a hydraulic spec lift grafted on, the downside was if he lifted anything too heavy the steering went light and he needed another Landy on a tow rope to help steer him

Simple solution, put a bigger cast iron engine in!

We had a Boughton Transit 4x4 conversion with a spec. lift on the back, it was a V8 petrol, we had a set of home-made weights kept in the 'crew' bit of the crew cab that we hung on the front bumper if we were lifting anything other than a Fiesta - winches front & back were used regularly, probably the front one more than the back!.
Because it was a '4x4' we used to get a lot of police work (although it was 4x4, it didn't really qualify as 'offroad capable') the reality was that a S3 landrover with a decent tow rope would have been better at getting stuff back to the tarmac where our slide & tilt could take over.

I mangled a white Opel Manta GTE back in 84…..tried dry stone wall pin ball! Shame was a nice car.

I saw that LR, maybe at one of the Welsh hill rallies when it was re-started - 1990's??
