thought i had better say hello and see how many more of you on here have learnt to weld just to keep an old land rover (or three) on the road, been nailing em back together for about 30yrs now going through a couple of sip migmates and a romarc easy mig 160, just waiting for my new toy to be delivered an R-tech MTS210D mig/mag/tig and mma multifunction plant.

Hi mr101! Welder by profession, but first work on Land Rovers was a IIA rear crossmember. Felt like being thrown in at the deep end at the time but have since rebuilt a 110 fire truck including another new crossy.

I rewired a IIA on a galvanised chassis then helped convert it to 200Tdi. He has sold that and is now doing a later coil sprung pre defender model putting a 300Tdi engine in to replace the rubbish military spec diesel turbo in it. I used to drive them as part of my job when I was on the gardening and pitch maintenance with the local schools and learned to hate them, vague steering, cold, rattly and full of condensation in winter when you had your snap sat in the back but off road and towing they were the tool for the job.

yep got one of them 24v version much better than 12v , also got a nice forward control 101 to go with it and the boss has a 1982 series 3 88" that she uses daily.
