Land Rover headlining

I'm after some advice from the Landy owners on here, my sons 110 Safari has the standard headlining problem, the vinyl covering has separated from the backing fibreboard material. I've looked on various LR forums for information how to repair or restick it. The advice varies between "you can't" to it "it doesn't last" or "I took the vinyl off & painted it" does anybody on here know a, easy way to make a tidy job of it that lasts & what did they use

Is it vinyl or cloth with a foam backing?
Generally the foam backing breaks up, the way to fix it is to remove the backing board,strip headling material off, clean all the loose foam of by rubbing then spray contact adhesive on the board and the new material, let it tack off and then gently apply the new material working from the center outwards.

As far as I can tell its vinyl, definitely some sort of plastic film, we haven't removed it yet. Trying to find an answer before we do. I don't think there is a foam backto it.

That may well be the way to go long term. In the short term, we are hoping to tidy it up.

Hi I did this a long time ago,strp 1 remove roof and place upside down on trestles remove old lining,fit new lining with gravity on your side, i also took the opportunity to glue 12mm celotex to the roof slitting it to allow bends etc then used trim carpet to cover ,looked the nuts and is still good 10+ years on and also helped with noise/ warmth etc,HTH

If it's like Range Rover headlining then it's foam backed vinyl onto compressed cardboard. The foam degrades and headlining droops down. No cure other than fitting alternative headlining. I'd remove the compressed cardboard if still in one piece and coat surface with fibreglass resin that will soak in and then ad a reinforcing layer of fibreglass tissue. When dry spray with fleck paint and refit
One car I had a previous owner had simply stapled the drooping vinyl to the base. I've also seen (white ?) drawing pins and even upholstery buttons used.

I think that will be the answer Compo, I've suggested we remove it & paint it, or as Rosinante suggests remove it & carpet it. I lined the inside of my T4 camper conversion that I did some years ago with ply & used that lining carpet that the Profesional converters use, is that what you referred to as trim carpet?
