laminators

anyone had any dealings with them an a4 size .the prices are from 12 quid upover whats the diffrence in prices is it quality ?

I occasionally use a Fellows laminator at work, it's a simple bit of kit that does what it says on the tin. I don't think it's a very expensive one.

Cheap ones will do just as good a job as the dearer ones
The difference comes down to use. Commercial ones will have better gears, bearings, press rollers etc so will have a much longer life span.

it all depends on how much you have got to do ?

if its only a couple of sheets every now and again just go with a cheap one
That way if it jams up, sorry when!! it does not matter if you brake it taking it apart to clean out the blockage

I bought the £12 price range one from Bargain Madness ..not sure if they are nationwide.

Have used it probably about 30 to 40 times this year and only had one dodgy result, which was probably my fault anyways.

If you're not doing a great deal then the cheap ones are fine. I've got an A3 one by GBC for transferring PCB prints to copper boards and it's worth the cash IMHO. Really solidly built, can take thick loads and feels like a quality bit of kit. Again, does depend on how much you intend to laminate.

The difference between a £12 laminator and a professional one are easy to see when you use them. The professional one will have adjustable speed,temperature and pressure, will heat up quicker, it will be able to handle all the different thicknesses of laminates and usually not need a caddy to put the laminate in before you run it through the machine. But most importantly is less likely to crease up ruining your original artwork ( or the customers ). That's not saying that the cheap ones are rubbish but if you are doing a lot spend a bit more dosh - you wont regret it. I got mine when I was running a copy shop 20 years ago and with the exception of a noisy fan (one of those get round to jobs) it still is as good as when I first brought it.

Hi Brightspark,

I have an a3 laminator that is all yours for the cost of postage if you want it. It will need a new plug as we had to remove it to replace one on the most important piece of kit we have....the kettle! but it is otherwise fine.
