Laminate flooring underlay

Im being a festive misery guts again. Laying laminate flooring is my festive game. Do I need an underlay? There is a thin layer fitted see photo. Its about 2mm thick.
Luckily b&q are open tomorrow.
So do I need one and what sort? Its a bare concrete floor.
My gut feeling is get some in any case.

Yes it's advisable, B&Q sell the foam which is ok and also the green fibre type, I always use the fibre version myself and never had any problems.

I used this about 12- 14 years ago, recently took and and repaired a damaged section of floor, underlay still looked as new.

Screwfix it is, same stuff as B+Q and 20% cheaper. Looks like woodfibre for me.

The foam stuff on a roll is very thin. Unless you're concrete is troweled, I would imagine it might not be enough?

If it is a smooth floor without any high points to give point load, the thin stuff will be fine. It's way cheaper than the green board stuff.

I ripped up beautiful cream shag pile carpets, tore out a beautiful plastic and marble gas fire, ripped down beautiful gilt chandeliers and ripped down beautiful anaglypta wallpaper with 100 coats of paint on it. It was a tarts parlour.
It will soon be My House.
Well front room.
Then it's tear the kitchen to bits.
Happy to pay a bit extra for comfy floors

Good point, missed solid floor. Use the previously linked on timber floors on top of hardboard.Next choice would be 6mm foam underlay boards.

Howdens foam underlay is my pref on concrete 6mm and solid foam boards rather than a roll. Not expensive either.

Unless you cannot afford it i would go for engineered or solid wood flooring whenever is possible, laminate flooring is horrible stuff and differs a lot on quality... I used 25mm hardwood flooring in all my previous properties, they can be sanded down when they get scratched and have a much better insulating coeficient than any laminate flooring.
By the time you add underlay and go for a quality laminate youre looking at real wood money. Just use a bitumen based underlay andjust stick the wood to the floor, zero movement, no moisture ingress and a lot nicer to walk on to... If you dont want bitumen glue then parquet qlue from sikaflex or soudal also works fine, sikaflex is flexible ruberized glue while soudal is gripfill in a big 15kg bucket.
