knipex cobra pliers - good stuff

saw this video a while back , id never heard of these pliers and wouldnt have guessed how fierce they grip on without seeing the demo , got myself 3 pairs now and theyre really good

they also do smooth jaw pliers wrench too

yeah id still use a spanner when i can , but not a bad tool to own

I've always found knipex to be good kit but I've never tried those cobra pliers, may have to put them on my wish list.

From what I recall the cobras have a button to adjust the jaw and the alligators have the usual method of opening them right up to adjust.

Sparkys and plumbers love them

I've had a pair in my toolbox permantly for many years now and have lost one of the rubber grips, they get used a lot mostly for holding things to grind or getting to difficult to reach lock nuts on tension springs. Definatly in my top 10 of hand tools to have on hand out on site

Use them a lot for big stuff that doesn't need massively tightening, eg cable glands and locknuts etc. had a pair of rs ones for years which have stood up to some serious abuse! Not had the knipex ones, but their other gear is generally excellent.

AKA Pump Pliers. Rothenberger arguably make the best.

A mix of Roth and Knipex. The Yellow handle ones are exGPO, and are the best pliers Ive used. The Blue/Yellow Pumps have the button, I find them finicky to use.

I've been using them for years mainly for glands, locknuts etc., various names, gland, slipjoint, waterpump pliers. Got one of them with the pushbutton to adjust and don't like it as you use the button to adjust them open but they can close on a ratchet mechanism so won't stay set at a particular size, I prefer the box joint type.

i get 1 year out of knipex snips and then they get chucked as the edge wears of them and i use them 7 days a week .if u cut and strip over 100 cables a day u can soon tell when they go blunt .james niel snips are every bit as good as the knipex as well with narrow cutting jaws

i have 4 sets of the conventional knipex ones i paid a tenner each for them . so unless i can get a pair for that price i will be passing on it

They any good then? I've thought about replacing the ones in my own toolox for a while. Them's k'nackered.

I'd recommend them. I remember as a lad a pair of handmedown channel lock ones, squeeze them hard enough and they would slip and pinch my hand between the handles.
That's never happened with the knipex ones.

thats just the thing you dont need to squeeze these with all your rage , pinch on the handles and they self grip on until you are done , they seem to bite hard enough that they'd only let go if the teeth break off or you snap the handle

Ive had some Bahco's since I started my apprenticeship, still in my box and used daily. Tried other makes over the years and nothing touches them, they get used these days but they used to get abused and are still as good as new
