Kit for strapping stuff to pallets?

I get stuff delivered that's strapped with this hard plastic banding stuff, about 18mm (ish) wide, and then it's melted together to "tie" it.

...but I've also seen strapping in the past that has metal clip things where it's "tied".


I'm sure the melted stuff is done with some fancy machine that tensions it, melts it, and cuts it all in one hit. And it probably costs more than I paid for my car...


But a look on Google showed hand operated ones also.


Are these any good?

I'm near certain someone here will have experience of this!

I'm wanting to ship stuff on pallets without needing ratchet straps all the time.

I got a cheap set off Amazon (clips and banding I have is about 12mm I think) and it's been absolutely fine. Sometimes over tension things and snap it but I don't need the really heavy duty stuff. I think the initial bundle was about £60 and then I've since paid the same again for about 15kg of clips and a mile of strapping. Should see me for a while.

we use the hand ones with metal clips at work.... takes a few goes to get used to it but they're pretty good once you're up and running

clips cost naff all, kit is a bit more, best off on ebay tbh - most places selling them are for companies/people who aren't paying the for it to order them


tried a cheap automatic cut/melt/join one once... it was junk, went back to metal clips right away

I have a kit here I don't use. Happy to pass it on. Vevor strap band thing iirc, roll of strapping a ton of metal clip and a home made stand. Not suitable for my purposes (organising piles of 4x2) but would be good for palletising. Big heavy kit though...

Im obviously interested - does it do the job? Not the job you wanted it to do, clearly, but will it make heavy things stay put on pallets?

Don't know to much about them but cordless Strapping tools start from £300 to just under £3000--stone me!.

Many nowadays most use PET banding not Steel and do appear to keep things in place and tied down.

Yes the system works. The issue for me is that I wanted to strap a load of 4x2 (and other scrap wood) together. This hand tool can't do that because it needs free space either side of the strap else it will lose tension when the tool is removed.

With a pallet there is always some strapping that is in free space so to speak. I'll sort out some pictures tomorrow. May be useful for others to see these things too because it's a darned site cheaper than rope, straps or miles of gaffa tape.

On reflection I could try and leave one plank out of the bundle to allow me to get enough tension for the clips to bite. OCD might not allow it of course...

I’ve been using poly strapping with metal clips for years for boxes and pallets, and only ever invested in the basic tools. More affordable than you might think. Just make sure you buy heavy duty strap if it’s mostly for pallets.

My tensioner and crimper were just basic cheap ones and have done me for 20+ years

The Nisorpa banding tool from Amazon is reasonable priced but you also need strapping and buckles.

I was with Fizzy a few months ago helping him band some heavy batteries to a piece of kit .

He used recycled nylon straps off other things and neat twisted wire clips that once threaded up correctly could be pulled very tight with hand pliers .

I used pallet strap with metal clips for years.
Works well if you get used to strapping with it.
You need solid pallets for heavy jobs, plus I used to drill & bolt machines to pallets wherever possible (it's cheap enough to do, and is far cheaper than getting kit tipped over / smashed to bits in some Transit Hub by a rough Forklift Driver).

FWIW, I think the joint in that type is made by ultrasonic (friction) welding.

The bent wire clips above have the advantage that they could be re-tensioned if you go around the item and the first one beomes loose. The crimped ones have to be cut off and done again.

There is an art to strapping a pallet correctly - I see many that are just trying to pull the individual pallet boards from the bearers rather than pulling the item onto the entire structure of the pallet.

Yes Fizzy's had a dark matt galv ( OLD AGE ??? ) . finish which IMO gave a much better grip on the banding

Silage wrap works very well. Not cheap when it only does a handful of bales but way stronger than any clingfilm I've come across and still got a good length left on the reel that's been going for 10+ years wrapping pallets and all sorts for me.
