got our lass a kindle for xmas, i have quite a few technical books i might get her to put on it for me.
question is, is there a way of printing pages of it?

you've prob guessed not much up on this modern technology.

u pay and download the pages of books u want on to machine .u cant put your own books on it

I believe you can (it can read PDF files) but obviously it takes a lot of work to scan them in.

I don't think you're allowed to print out eBooks that you've bought from Amazon.

that is true but as u say it would take a lot of scanning to do all the pages

You can download a Kindle program for the PC from Amazon and there are a few free books available or you can pay for the ones you want.

I down loaded the kindle software for the iPad and when completed it gave a an email address that I can send pdf's etc to which will then arrive on the kindle

Hijacking a wee bit but along the same lines so hope no one minds:

I know nothing about the Kindle but I read a hell of a lot...so in a nutshell can I go to the site Engineer mentions, download a book and send it from my pc to the Kindle by my wireless router or whatever...yeah I sound thick I know but it's something I have never studied.

Once you register your kindle with amazon, they give you 2 email addresses to send books to, one is free the other not.
If you send a book by email to the free address, once your kindle connects to wifi, the book will arrive and be waiting in your library.
If you include the word "convert" in the title, the clever software at amazon will convert the book to .mobi format too.

All very clever, but not advertised by amazon, maybe because they'd like people to believe the only way to get a book is to buy it from them

You don't need to buy from Amazon, in fact you don't need to buy at all.

You can put whatever books you like on the things, just plug it in to your pc and then drag and drop the files, it couldn't be simpler.

Actually it could.

You can email books to your kindle for free, it will automatically convert them to the proper format, even from PDF to mobi.

The best option is to download "calibre" it's a book libabry, where you can consolidate your book collection, convert them to whatever format you like then just plug your kindle into your PC and the books you choose are automatically moved across.

Books are easy enough to come across if you know where to look.

I use fbreader on my Android tablet, loads of books out there mine are all .mobi file extensions.

Lots of books available at Myanonamouse.net, but it's a private torrent tracker so you'll need an invite, or answer their questionnaire (about how to use the site), and they'll let you in. As above, just drag and drop off your pc, so printing (from your pc) not problem.

Alternatively search for ebooks on torrentz.eu.

Had a look at the freebookspot one, plenty there I would like so thought I would try downloading one and all I got was a box saying 'bad hash'.

Before going further, is this something that occasionaly happens or do I need to do something I have not done... so to speak

It can also get your pc into a load of trouble

After browsing and playing with a couple of the links mentioned I noticed my Malware protection had caught 2 high risk key loggers being sent with the files.

If you have a Kindle, get a copy of Calibre and have it convert your books to Kindles format, far superior to Kindles own email system. There are also various programs out there that will strip the DRM off from other sellers books, I use one to allow me to buy books from Waterstones and read them on my Kindle (If I buy a book I think its my right to read it on whatever device I so choose).

I Also use the USB cable to d'load direct to the Kindle where possible, its quicker and charges while it goes

Can see why you people like them may even have a try myself, i loved the advert on the telly because when the screen was in shot they were all on the first page of chapter 1. Still great to go a boot fair or browse in book shop and come home with somthing you really want to read.

My missus gets scared every time I see a second hand book shop, she knows I will have to come home with at least one book, just love the things. But I can get all of my Uni course books on and not break my back lugging them about.
