ok so citroen relay van 52 reg 108k miles , yesterday decided to change the oil (done it a few times before no probs ) . Drained oil changed filter , refilled what i thought was the right amount ie about 4.5 litres (ok so i couldnt find the manual to check erxact amount )

go to staart it and display says high oil level , drain about a litre off . Try again still high , i say to myself wtf . check dipstick says ok !
Try to staart it turns over but not firing up .
OK so display still says oil high , ok i will disconnect battery maybe that will clear the display and thus allow it to start .
REsult display cleared but still not starting
Well ok so in the end i phoned RAC guy came out this morning , didnt tell him about the over filled oil , just that i wouldnt start ...

ok the result is air hose off and easystart sprayed into intake manifold , it starts . He reckons its low fuel pressure or a sensor on fuel system .
Unfourtunatly tho im to the van hire place as it wont start without easysart even when warm

just seems bazarre its allways started no probs before now , dont see how high oil would fook the injection sytem hope its not the ecu or anything too expensive ,
Bloody french /italian piece of poo , going for a vw or merc when its changed next year !

Have you dislodged a pipe/sensor.....
Once its running, is it smooth? Not lumpy?

ha well its only £ 150for a weeks hire of a small van , they are actually built in an italian factory along with the pug boxer and fiat ducato , the equivalent of some cheap italian rebadged welder at least its not a cosmo/powercraft / berlan ching chon clone

Hitch, i checked all the nearby plugs wiring all seems in place , the rac guy couldnt get any data etc when it was running on his laptop , the rac softwear not good on french stuff aparently (to check fuel pressure etc ) , he said there was no stored fault codes then again i guess it wipes them wen i disconected battery .

oh well ill take it to fuel injection place tue , to then its off to deepest wales for a weeks work a way , next to the sea tho so hope the weather holds .

well 3 weeks later and ive finally got it back
well it needed recon diesel injector pump , glowplugs , imobilizer rear brake adjusters ,mot test

and now im £1200 lighter

anyone want to buy a money pit ?

How did they come to the conclusion that the brake adjusters were affecting the running of the engine

Hi,

some cars have sensors on the brakes and if they show a fault then the engine management puts the engine into 'limp home mode', ie, restricts the maximum revs.

Some faults, such as the 'anti-lock brake sensor dodgy wiring that gets wet' on the Skoda Fabia will stop the engine from firing and lock the brakes on.

All of the Pug/Citroen clones seem to have dodgy wiring...a common data bus that runs around /everything/ on the car. Alledgedly, it's been known for water to leak into the car boot, run down under the carpet into the CD changer plug, and stop the engine.

You don't get problems like that on a mk2 Mondeo diesel...

I gather (from my work) that a lot of grief is caused by the CAN bus (Control Area Network) when the wiring is not designed very well - for this read: done on the cheap.
I gather that just about all new cars have some sort of CAN system and it conveys software messages around the whole car, so you can see some quite strange problems related to failures of the system.

Hitch , the brake adjusters were nothing to do with the engine problem ,i asked them to mot it at the same time .
much as id love to blame the frogs , the injector pump is a bosch unit

The imobilizer was nothing to do with the original problem it fecked up whilst they were working on the van

at least i get the vat back on it
