I have just swapped some scaffolding for a Kevin Butters Auto-Weld 3 Mig welder, serial number 721 with a separate 110v wire feed serial number 1211 also by Kevin Butters that sits on a pin on top of the main welder body. Unfortunately it does not have a plug and I was wondering if anyone knows how large a plug I should use. Also does anybody know where I might get a manual. Thanks.

There should be a plate on the back with the maximum input current required, if you're not sure how to read it, post a picture up.

Not Kevin Butters but Norman. Dont know where that came from!
Nothing on the plates on the welder apart from serial number and voltage.
There are 5 separate wires in the power cable so presumably 3 phases, neutral and earth. Each wire has 78 threads of 0.2794mm diameter which I make adds up to 4.78 square mm of conductor for each wire.
Does this correspond to the size of plug I need.
The only other information is the voltage meter reads up to a maximum of 40V and the amp meter up to a maximum of 300A.
Any ideas?

Ahh, Kevin, Norman's long-lost son! 
Sounds like a big old machine that! Depending on how hard you want to work it stick a 32A 5 pin plug on it and supply it with 32 amps. The worst that can happen is the breaker will trip.
If it does and you need the extra power then you'll need a 63A one and a supply to match.
Nothing whatsoever to tell you what supply is needed is unusual though not unheard of.
It may be worthwhile taking the casing off where the input cable enters and seeing if by chance there's something written near there.

If it's 3 phase, I doubt it will need anything bigger than a 32A plug/socket, the Murex 350A sets we use at work are delivered with a 16A plug on.
