Always used my miniarc mig in auto setting and goes up to 4mm need to weld thicker steel guess I go into manual setting is there a easy way to work out settings in manual mode
Going to manual won't give you a higher max current setting. 4-5mm is about as high as you can go on a 180 MIG and achieve full penetration unless you start preheating and/or getting creative with weld preps.
How thick is the metal you wish to weld?
Small plant and thicker metals = pre-heat ! It effectively removes the heat sink effect but I mean 150-260 c (300-500f). with a gas torch. I am sure it will be just fine on 6mm with care and even a tiny amount of joint prep. You can get heat indicating crayons to tell you when your there heart wise (obviously not great for production welds).
Many forget that once your on thicker stuff a little MMA set is so much more useful, if you lack bottles or need to push things a little further consider this option as a second set- it need not cost a fortune
