tSo just finished the last inner wing/strut area only thing that needs doing there is the stone chip and top coats now. Lot's of welding and rust removal involved and presently has epoxy + tiger seal. All looks good and I dare say many a 106 gti owner would love to bite my hand off to have theirs in that condition.
So before I started doing the stone chip I decided to clean up the holes on the side of the car that hold the body kit on. It's all been done last year on the other side of the car and even got it 2k painted and looks great.
Off I went and all was cleaning up nicely. I will full prep the areas before getting it 2k painted buy a paint shop.
As I go along I always do sound and feel checks - Peugeot does great structural body protection that can hide all kinds of nasties. Towards the rear sill it started sounding strange yet no visible bubbles or crisp sound when pushed............ the fear hit me though the sound just wasn't right.
Out came the screw driver and started chipping off, then the paint came off in big chucks. Hardly no rust but the stone chip/paint finish had detatched from the galv surface. The galv surface looked a bit damp though, the steel seemed really flexi as well. Pushed the screwdriver on it and it went straight through! It had been rusting from the inside out.
So the dream of nearly being done has gone out comes the welder again.
Still got to cut more out to get rid of this rot. Oh well.
