Just starting out

Just got going doing some mig welding on a frame to fit a car body mould. New to welding so its a steep learning curve but after about an hour or so playing with my new toy I thought I would have a go. I have looked at some threads and viewed a lot of you tube video which has helped no end. The welder is Migatronic 180MX which is ex MOD and in really good condition for an older machine. Any criticism of the welds will be taken on the chin so be as critical as you like. The frame is only a support and carries very little load.

Welcome G40, if your've only been playing for an hour then your doing well those welds are looking good for a beginner, the quality of the machine helps out.

Why GT40driver, Martin, are you building a kit car (you mention a body mould above) , just love them or lucky enough to own the real deal?

420bhp on a small block ford.
I did try a friends SIP 130 but it didn't feel right and couldn't get a decent weld out of it hence the Migatonic
which I have to say is just brilliant. Not sure how it compares to a modern machine. I did look at getting an
ESAB Caddy 160 but couldn't justify the cost.
I have also bought a TIG machine which I really am struggling with. Love a challenge though.

The Migatronic will beat any SIP welder and it shows in your welds, TIG takes lots of practice just keep trying.

Many many years ago I was invited to a Bentley, GT40 and Ferrari Owners Club meet at Goodwood Race Track, they were taking part in a timed circuit event, more like a balls out track day event to be honest.

Loads of GT40's and Ferrari's various models but the highlight of the day was watching 3 3.5ltr supercharged Bentley's being driven sideways through some of the corners the sound was amazing.
