Just started my welding course!

Just started my welding course and found out I'm on the level 2 class!

There was a bit of a hoo-hah but the instructer was ok about it. He basically is going to put me and this other lad through our paces and see how we get on.

I've worked around welders before but next actually struck up an arc.

Got stuck in with the MIG straight away after the instructer showed us the ins and outs.

Got a good set of welds done on some plate after a few hours. lap welds yesterday.

Following day was fillet welding. This took me all day to get the hang of.

That's it til another two weeks.

I find the MIG easy to get used to, but getting the 'flow' to run right onto the weld is another matter

Great stuff. Is it a full time course? I'm doing a part time one, (1 night a week for 12 weeks, second time I've done it). It's all about practice and someone overseeing your work. I spent all night last week doing TIG fillet welds and got okay at it. This week, more of the same and perhaps try aluminium. The others are doing MIG for a couple of weeks, but I really want to get to grips with TIG.

Did a full time MIG course me self m8,6hr day over 2wk passed level 2,in the down hand position,welded 3mm,5-6mm steel.Single weld bead,Tpiece fillet weld,lap weld,corner piece finally.Getting the right wire speed,right amps,travel speed and right angle of welding,takes practice m8.
