Well i bit the bullet and signed up for a 12 week mig course.
No idea what it will be like but the first session seemed to go well. I was happy with the welds i was laying down. Not great welds but better than i expected with a good few straight & neat with what looked like good penetration.
It seemed to help with my attempts at home too. Managed to get the rig dialed in better with some better welds. Though i was going gasless and on thinner gauge (about 1mm as opposed to about 4mm on the course) as it was all i had from a boiler casing. I seemed to get a lot of spitting and weld "sitting" on the surface in between the good welds even when i was trying to stay consistant. The sheet had been galved and roughly cleaned off, maybe i didn't clean it well enough?
Looks like ive managed to aquire a co2 bottle from a friendly landlord (it may even be full too
) so need to sort out a reg and maybe an airflow meter.
Will the likes of this http://www.weldequip.com/co2-conversion-kit.htm be suitable or will i need something else if im using a pub bottle?
Cheers, Mark
