Got a bill/demand for using the Dartford crossing January. Wasn't me, wasn't there and never have been. The picture of the car is not even a close look alike to our model, doubt if it's even the same make. Dart charge have all the details of our car, why before they send out a bill can't they look at the picture and see if the car matches the details held by the DVLA. They want £103 which they ain't gonna get, it will still cost me something to prove its not my car they have caught. I have already told them I want refunded for any costs I incurr, bet I get nothing back.

Write back and tell them they have it wrong, send them a photograph of your car, providing it's a pukker registration, you have little to worry about, obviously someone is using your number on their vehicle
probably for criminal use.

My son has just had the plates nicked from his Landy, the Police have been informed & a crime no given, I'm just waiting to see what bills turn up. The police seem to think it will be used for a garage fill & run.

The scrotes that took the plates were hard necked enough to come down the side of the house in the middle of the day. My son & his partner were only out a short time & other cars were there, you have to wonder if they were being watched & they wanted those plates specifically as the front one was screwed on & the bumper was close up to the fence.

My son was told to keep the crime no. with him as he may well be stopped due to a marker on DVLA records. Also the garages apparently pick up the numbers with their systems if they've been used for a runner.

I got a final demand for a parking fine on a car I had sold 2 months earlier. The only proof I had was that I'd changed the insurance over but they didn't pursue it when I explained. It was a genuine council fine not one of the chancers who send an "invoice".

With the removal of the paper tax disc last year (october) has only made it worse for the law abiding motorist, this will increase more as the twelve months period from last october comes closer.
all you need is a car the same colour make model , copy number plates and park, speed, commit crime, the poor sod with the real ownership opf the reg gets the agro of trying to prove its not him/her

Not to put a downer on it but I ended up selling the car as I got sick of being stopped every time a police car was near.

Had a similar problem years later when I had an argument with an off duty cop. I was "reported" for whatever he decided to think up and was stopped all the time until I said I was keeping a record of all stops to pass to my solicitor.

don't spend any money at all proving its not you other then a stamp to write a letter explaining totally wrong car with a stolen VRN , its upto them to prove it is you, let them waste their money

Exactly right, but as stated by a previous contributer, write a letter to the police to get it put on record, and as also stated the removal of the paper tax disc was an ill concieved idea, and will lead to more incidents of this nature (backward progress)

I got a bundle of 8 parking fines from a town 50 miles away for a white transit van with my Honda Accord reg on it, phoned them..had a chat and heard nothing after that, no problems being stopped at later dates either.

I had similar issues, plates nicked of my car and immediTely reported and references on obtained. I then started to incurr huge fines for the love neon congestion charge, parking fines, box junction cameras etc etc. I didn't have to pay anything but it was hugely time consuming. I liked the car so I solved the problem with a private number plate

I got a London congestion charge last yr, for £10. It had been removed from my debit card without my knowledge. Complained, sent proof. Got nowhere, complained to bank, they did FA

Just back from the police station, they have confirmed that the car In the picture is not ours. It is an Audi not a Vauxhall, they are going to speak to the company involved. The police can't understand how they did not see it was the wrong car. A marker is being put out for the Audi, hopefully that will be an end to it.

The reason they didn't spot it is that it is fully automated, and so far the computers aren't clever enough to pick up the differences between an audi and a vauxhall.

The letter may well have a "kind regards, so and so", but it will be an automated letter sent out, and nobody will have looked at it.

The nice policeman has just phoned, he has spoken to the company. They have realised their mistake and are taking no further action
