just a wee hello!

hi there just a quick hello iv been mig welding for a few years now self tought and i cando the basics (i can join two pieces of metal) LOL! im now in the process of starting self employed so ive got a few courses lined up but i think this site would be a great place for help if you would thanx.

PS anyone else self employed?

What do you intend doing as self employed? What couses are you booked up on??

I know a few boys that are self employed, it depends what sort of thing you want to do.

my intension was decrative metalwork fancy gates, planters, bird tables that sort of thing however il be starting of in a garage with its owen pit in my relatives back garden and her neihbour owns a running garage which tuns welding away so hes going to pass that workj to me so really im going to be mixed . the practical side of things arnt the probs im just a bit worried on the paper side of things if that makes sense?

Dont know much about the paperwork side of stuff, but you could pop over to Trusted Tradesman There is a lot of self emloyed people over there that im sure will be willing to offer some advice on the subject, in the business section.

I'm self employed and self tought and never had a welding lesson in my life. I make steel framed buildings and never bothered with the paperwork! My advice- run your welder as high as you can before you blow holes in what you're welding! That theory has worked for me for 7 years and never had a proper weld fail(only tacks). Don't worry about paperwork, I know loads of people who weld 4 a living and not one has any formal training!
