1k will be for people in a hurry , maybe a small spot repair thats not worth mixing some up
I just ordered Jotun Jotamastic 87 Epoxy Primer from Bayside Marine on Ebay, they are actually selling it on ebay with Free Postage, on their website they charge an extra £9.99 for postage - no brainer. I could get HMG primer locally cheaper (The reason for this thread) but the Jotun Jotamastic 87 is better VFM and for the underside as in my case a better product (so I have been told). Thanks, guys, that makes sense now. I have been searching for epoxy primer online today. The metalflake website is easy to navigate, but gives little info on products, and I have read a few comments that they are not that helpful. Free postage though. The paints4u site gives me a headache and is like something made with a disc off the front of Computer Shopper c1995, but lots of info and a good reputation. Will probably get a Lechler epoxy as people seem happy with their products.
Despite somebody having used cellulose thinners with it, it is not meant to be used with it. It may have an undesirable effect. I would buy the correct thinners if you want to thin it.
Jotamastic 80 is exactly the same product but thinner, this may be easier to work with but you would have to weigh up the cost and hassle factor to see if it's best for you. If you are painting on your back underneath a car, a thicker product might be more suitable!
It's not really suitable for bodywork as it's too thick, it's not designed for that. Jotun Penguard HB would be ideal (and could be thinned with the no 17 thinner), or go for a proper automotive epoxy primer.
I was't planning on doing the body work yet :-) but if I do Penguard it is.I actually cleaned my gun with cellulose thinners. The No 17 would clean it fine, but I already had cellulose in for cleaning and its cheaper. In your case you are unlikely to need all the 5 litres of the No 17 even spraying the whole car, so yeah go ahead and use it for cleaning too.
It won't be suitable for the Gravitex though. But you don't have to thin Gravitex as you use it with a schutz gun not a normal gun.
Regarding the bodywork, as you are planning to spray the Jotamastic 87 and so will get No 17 thinners, it makes sense to use Penguard HB for the bodywork as you can use the same thinners. If you bought another epoxy, it might be OK with the No 17 but there's no guarantee.
steveo3002 - do you mean you have been using celly thinners with JOTUN JOTAMASTIC Epoxy or U-POL Gravitex?ive been using celly thinners with mine , must be a couple of years now
not officialy reccomended , but seems to work just fine
Thanksi was responding to the jotun , but yeah it works fine in gravitex too

Thanks richie00boy, I have already ordered the 87 and will probably apply it un thinned paint to the underside, unless I flip the car on its side which I don't have the space for, I probably wont have enough room to spray anyway. I was planning on spraying the boot floor and interior floor with the stuff so looks like i'll have to get some Jotun Thinners No 17, I guess this would clean the Epoxy off the spray gun better than cellulose. To avoid having to get cellulose thinners as well could I use the Jotun Thinners No 17 with U-POL Gravitex??
Burdekin - just found your thread here looks like you did a cracking job first time spraying. Did you use 10, 15 or 20% thinners? I also see advice in your thread suggesting that its good practice to apply coats of primer and even top coat the same day to help with adhesion. If you can flip it it will make the job considerably quicker and easier, here is my thread for painting the underside, similar to what you're planning I think.
It won't attach the link, do a search for painting Volvo amazon on here and it should come up, maybe it will help out.

I'll be top coating with Gravitex Stone Chip so looks like i'll have to get everything ready to do all painting in quick succession.
Also how clean where your parts, I have read that ALL rust needs to be removed or treated with some form of rust converter.
