Joining stainless and mild steel

I want to join a small mild steel rod to a 1mm thick sheet of stainless steel. Can this be done? Eg using Argon & SS wire.

Doh! I just read an earlier thread and the answer is already there - sounds like I should be OK - it's not structural or anything important, just making something out of scrap. Sorry if I wasted your time reading this.

Hi guys
I need help to repair my vans roof rack brackets it has eight fixing points which are well corrode mild steel threaded bar to a mild steel L bracket which fits under the gutter rim on the van

1, I would like to fit stainless steel threaded bar to mild steel L bracket then sprayed with galvanising Spray

2, Can my second hand Clarke 120e ver2 take 0.80 stainless steel wire (it works great on mild steel sheet with 0.60 mild steel wire and co2)

3, Gas ????? CO2/Argon Mix or Argon

Stainless wire and argon/CO2 mix would be the way to go. I don't think galvanising spray would stick to the stainless though.

Thanks for the info. the galvanising spray would be for the mild steel only

Why can't you make it all out of st-steel? I know the prices of st-steel are high at the moment but the qty that you need seems quite small.
