Joining plates face to face

I have been given a number of 30cm square pieces of EN8 steel to make targets for my shooting club. Unfortunately they are only 6mm thick so to use them for shotgun or pistol calibre bullets I will have to join at least two together to make a 12mm plate. Should I bevel the inside edges and weld along the joins or should I drill one and plug weld them as well or instead? Any advice welcomed.
For equipment I have an R Tech Mig 180, which is 180 amps Mig and 160 amps MMA.

bevel edges and weld round as u said is well enough

just stick them together will be quicker lol

You could also do a few 12mm plug welds, and then grind flush
